Kingdoms can fall into ruin based on simple things. The want of a nail. Turning left instead of right. Forgetting to make sure the stove was turned off when leaving on holiday. Buying a paperback book over hard back. Trying to touch the tip of your nose with your tongue. Decisions made upon whim, without for thought, can and often do change the course of history, and more often than not for the worse.
It doesn’t have to be a king or politician either. A child could drop a penny from a tower and kill a passing prince. A milk maid could pick the wrong udder to start with and cause a war to start in a nearby country. A simple farm hand could bring the cows in early one evening and damn an entire city to hell because of it. Anyone at any time can do something that ruins everything.
Yes, you. Haven’t you yet realized what horrible horrific harm your choices have made upon the innocent lives around you? Think about it! How many have you slaughtered already by obeying the rules of the road? How many more will go tomorrow just because you chose to put jam on your toast instead of cinnamon sugar? Did you check the expiration date on the milk? Congratulations, another bloody famine!
You don’t know if any of this is true! You can’t possibly know! Not until it’s far, far too late to do anything about it!
And no, staying in bed with the covers pulled over your head won’t do the slightest bit of good.
Because that, you should know, is a decision too.
