I was talking to Brother Todd about the new Doctor, Peter Capaldi. The BBC had released a new picture of him in costume, and it was my considered opinion that he looked like the late great Jon Pertwee.
Yesterday I saw the picture on the left. Nice to see I’m not the only one who noticed.
Word is, though, show runner Steve Moffat is leaning towards not Pertwee’s run but Tom Baker’s. Specifically Philip Hinchcliffe/Robert Holmes (i.e. the early days of Baker.) I hope this means a lift in quality, as in my poor opinion, Doctor Who has been suffering in that regard. Last season alone had one of the worst stories I’ve seen out of the series, and even the good episodes weren’t as good as previous seasons.
Fingers crossed on that…
EDITED TO ADD: From an interview with a New Who director posted recently on IO9: “They’ve done everything, they’ve tried all sorts of stuff. It seems to me the episodes that we’re doing now seem more like classic Who. We’re going back to that style. But you’ll have to wait and see.”
