Not like that wasn’t the only way this could end or anything…

I try very hard to come up with new material, but a small part of me thinks I’m ripping someone off with this.  A cartoon maybe.  Or Benny Hill.   Or someone.  If some one can name at least one source, I’ll credit it here in this space.

As for the joke title…  Well, for those who need it explained, click here.  Be warned, there’s a classical painting lurking at the other end that’s probably Not Safe For Work.

  1. Heya, man. Sorry I haven’t been on lately. I have no excuse… some brother I’ve been…

If you want folks to come back to your site, check out the posts that get the most comments and do more posts like that. I mean, folks seem to truly enjoy your commentary – your Billie Joe MacAllister essay was incredibly insightful (one of the best blog entries I’ve ever read, anywhere). Your commentary on Stephen Crane’s poetry seems to still be generating comments… and you wrote it in freaking 2006.

Your opinion, review, and analysis stuff is what brings people here, because not only do you bring a unique and intelligent perspective to what you’re writing about, your writing is fun to read and the way you express your opinions about this sort of thing is both entertaining and intellectually satisfying.

So, get going! Find something to talk about, talk about it in that amazingly clever and charismatic way you have, and roll out. From what I’ve seen, you engage your readers most when you’re being more opinionated and less self-deprecating. Write with confidence – you’re good, you know you’re good, so show it. People will come back if you write the kind of intelligent essay that they’re still commenting on three years later.

You can do it. I believe in you, and I always have.
